Isakson Commemorates 'Month of the Military Child'

Honors Military Children for Their Service, Sacrifice

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., is commemorating “Month of the Military Child,” a month-long celebration in April to recognize the sacrifices made by children of military families and to applaud their service to the country.

Isakson serves on the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

“The children of the men and women serving in our Armed Forces hold a special place in my heart. It is very important that we recognize them for their sacrifices and the challenges they must endure while growing up with one or more parents serving in the military,” said Isakson. “I hope that Americans across the country will join me in honoring these children and thanking them for their service to our country.”

Since 1986, “Month of the Military Child” has been observed in the month of April to underscore the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. More than 1.8 million American children under the age of 18 have at least one parent serving in the military. The Department of Defense estimates that the state of Georgia has more than 89,000 military children with one or both parents who have been deployed.
