WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., this week was presented with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious “Spirit of Enterprise” Award for his support of pro-growth legislation during the second session of the 111th Congress.
“As someone who ran a business for over 30 years, I know how important it is to support a pro-business legislative agenda that promotes economic growth and job creation in the United States,” said Isakson. “I am truly honored to receive this award, and I consider U.S. Chamber of Commerce to be a strong ally in our efforts to bring economic recovery and prosperity back to our country.”
“The Chamber is honored to recognize Senator Isakson for helping create an environment in which businesses can grow and create jobs,” said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber. “He has shown great conviction by standing on the side of business, at a time when it matters most.”
Eligibility for the award is based on how Members of Congress vote on key business issues, which the Chamber outlines in its annual publication How They Voted. These designated “key votes” are recorded floor votes on issues established as priorities on which the Chamber communicates its position prior to the vote. Those members of Congress who support the Chamber’s position on at least 70 percent of those votes receive the “Spirit of Enterprise” Award. Isakson received a score of 100 for the second session of the 111th Congress and has a cumulative score of 93 percent on Chamber-selected issues since he was elected to Congress.
