Isakson Urges President to Support Governor's Request for Emergency Declaration on Severe Weather

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today expressed his strong support for Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue’s request for a major disaster declaration from President Obama to assist the north Georgia and metro Atlanta areas, which have been affected by severe weather and flooding.

A federal disaster declaration will make the state eligible for federal funding for emergency response measures and aid for losses. Isakson has been in communication with state emergency officials following the severe weather and flooding.

“I fully support the Governor’s request for federal disaster assistance for communities in Georgia affected by these devastating storms and floods, and I hope the President will approve this request quickly so all of our Georgia communities can begin the recovery process,” Isakson said. “My prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in this tragedy, and I want to thank the emergency personnel who responded so quickly.”
