Isakson on Obama’s Budget: Spends Too Much, Taxes Too Much, Borrows Too Much
Isakson’s Request for Feedback from Constituents Draws More Than 1,500 Responses
Apr 03, 2009
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator and Senate candidate Johnny Isakson this week sent an e-mail to constituents saying President Obama’s astronomical $3.6 trillion budget proposal under debate in the Senate spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much.
In the e-mail to constituents who signed up to receive campaign updates, Isakson asked his constituents to share their thoughts on the Obama budget, as well as on Isakson’s four point plan to economic recovery. More than 1,500 constituents responded and the vast majority agreed with Isakson that the Obama budget is the wrong direction for the country.
“I appreciate the time my constituents took to respond,” said Isakson. “People feel very strongly about the out-of-control spending in Washington at a time when they have had to cut the family budget. This is exactly the type of ongoing dialogue I encourage in my campaign through my website at www.johnnyisakson.com and my new Facebook page. I need to hear from my constituents regularly so that I can best represent them in Washington.”

Dear Friend,
This week in Washington, the Senate is debating President Obama’s astronomical $3.6 trillion budget proposal and I’d like to hear your thoughts.
The total spending in the Obama budget for the year 2009 alone is 28 percent of GDP – that’s the highest level since World War II.
To give you some perspective on the added debt in this plan, it took the previous 43 presidents 232 years to build up $5.8 trillion in publicly-held federal debt; Obama’s plan would more than double the national debt to a whopping $14.5 trillion by 2016. Obama is adding more debt than all the previous presidents – from George Washington to George W. Bush – combined.
In short, Obama’s budget spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. In addition, I cannot support President Obama’s plan to impose a new tax on Georgia’s energy consumers or his plan to use the proceeds from that energy tax to pay for a government-run “nationalized” health care program he wants to create.
The fiscally irresponsible agenda, currently running amok in Washington, is threatening job creation and economic growth. I am fighting against these Obama policies and trying to protect our very American ideals.
The outcome of this budget debate will have an impact upon every citizen of our country…today and in the future. The Senate will be voting on President Obama’s budget later this week, and I’d like to hear your thoughts. And to read more about the common-sense, conservative solutions I have proposed, please click here.
Sincerely,
Johnny Isakson
