Pleased Amendment on Gun Laws Clears Senate
Feb 26, 2009
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today issued a statement regarding the passage of an amendment he co-sponsored to S.160, the D.C. Voting Rights bill, that would allow residents of the District of Columbia to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
“I support the Second Amendment right of all law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families. This legislation repeals restrictive gun control laws passed by the District of Columbia City Council in response to the U.S. Supreme Court overturning the ban on possessing handguns in the District last year. This step by the U.S. Senate is essential to restoring to District residents the constitutionally guaranteed right to protect themselves. I am pleased with the bipartisan vote this amendment received.”
