Cap and Trade Tax:
A Good Idea?
Just over a week ago, right before leaving for the Independence Day recess, the Democrat-led U.S. House of Representatives passed the Waxman-Markey ‘cap-and-trade’ energy tax by a narrow 219-212 vote. Despite some strong arm-twisting, 44 Democrats voted against this bill because they saw through this not-so-hidden tax scheme on every American in the form of higher utility bills and higher prices of goods and services.
I am working in the Senate to stop this version of the bill before it puts our nation’s businesses at a competitive disadvantage in the global economy and imposes higher utility bills and increased costs to Americans on everyday goods and services.
